A blanket of snow in southern Iowa led to several postponements and cancellations of Iowegian area sporting events from this weekend.

The big loss from the weekend was the cancelling of the junior varsity and varsity Mike Halupnick/Big Red Invitational in Centerville. The annual wrestling tournament always brings a good crowd along with some of the top wrestlers in Iowa and Missouri and was set to feature 16 teams this year.

The event was set to host 26 ranked wrestlers with at least one ranked wrestler in every class but 195 pounds. There were also four classes with at least three ranked wrestlers and 113 pounds potentially featured a state title preview match between No. 1 Matthew Lewis of Centerville against No. 2 Colby Lillegard of Bondurant-Farrar.

Centerville will return to the mats on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. when they travel to Sully for a quad meet against Lynnville-Sully, English Valleys-Tri County and Montezuma.

The Centerville bowlers meet at Sigourney was also cancelled. They will return home on Thursday at 4 p.m. to take on Oskaloosa.

Moulton-Udell, who were celebrating their homecoming last week, saw their girls and boys basketball games get postponed on Friday. They have now been rescheduled to Tuesday, Jan. 29 with the girls game tipping off at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.

The Seymour boys and girls basketball teams were set to take on Diagonal on Saturday. Both of those matchups were also cancelled because of the snow. No makeup date has been announced at this time.
