Matchup history

First matchup in QuikStats era (since 2008).

One key player for Centerville

Claire Mathews reached base in all four of her at-bats against PCM. The sophomore will have a difficult task ahead of her as she will face UNI-commit Hailey Sanders (17-0, 0.45 ERA), who pitched a one-hit shutout with 16 strikeouts against Central Lee in the quarterfinals. Mathews will need to bring that “get on anyway you can” mentality as Sanders doesn’t make many mistakes. On the flip side, Mathews will need to be solid defensively against a strong hitting Louisa-Muscatine team.

Keys for Centerville

Shorten up your swing and find a way to make contact. Louisa-Muscatine has shutout their opponent in 20 of their 31 wins, largely in part to the pitching of Sanders, who has only allowed seven earned runs all season. Sanders is a strikeout specialist. She has 232 strikeouts against 30 walks in 109 innings. Centerville has to find a way to make contact early in the count and force her defense to make plays behind her and not allow her to get to her strikeout pitches. If you believe in the saying “we haven’t played our best game yet,” the Redettes will need to play their best game this season to have a chance to pull off the upset.
