KNOXVILLE — Sophomore Korey Shondel put together Centerville’s best finish of the day at last week’s South Central Conference Team Meet.
Shondel took fifth place in singles among 12 competitors. He started off the day by defeating Knoxville’s Andrew Orr 6-3, 6-0. Shondel would then fall in the quarterfinals to No.1-seed Stan Kutsel of Chariton.
That sent Shondel to the consolation bracket where he would bounce back to defeat teammate Austin Dell, who lost in a tiebreaker to Davis County’s Clayton McFarland the first round, 11-9. Shonel once again defeated Orr, this time 10-3 before winning the fifth place match 11-9 over Albia’s Barrett Bonnett.
Centerville’s doubles teams didn’t have the day they wished they could have.
