ALBIA — The Centerville girls tennis team picked up their first win of the year in convincing fashion as they rolled to a 6-3 victory over Albia.

It didn’t look good at the start, Chelsey Boettcher (lost 8-1) and Savannah Daugherty (lost 8-5) both lost to put Centerville in an early 2-0 deficit.

The remaining four Redettes stepped up in big way, winning all four of the remaining singles matches. Elizabeth Moriarty (won 8-4), Jessica King (won 8-3), Brason Bulechek (won 8-6) and Sarah Sheets (won 8-1) all won to send Centerville to doubles with a 4-2 lead.

Boettcher and King would lose a hard-fought 9-7 match to open doubles. That meant Albia would need to win the next two matches to steal the meet.

Centerville instead got an 8-2 win from Daugherty and Bulechek and an 8-5 victory from Sheets and Callen to secure the meet.

Centerville (1-4) will return home on Thursday at 4:15 p.m. when they face Chariton (3-1).
