The Bluegrass Conference Tournament tipped off on Saturday with first round action for the boys and girls. Moravia hosted a triple header that saw the Mohawks and Lady Mohawks advance to the quarterfinals.

The Redettes knew how much a win in this game would mean for them and this season. With Centerville’s 69-42 over Moulton-Udell on Monday, the Redettes, now 6-3, will be above .500 going into the winter break for the first time since the 2015-16 season.

MOULTON — Last year, these two played three great games against one another including an overtime thriller in the playoffs. This year started with another close battle with Moulton-Udell coming out on top with a 38-31 win over Moravia.
MOULTON — The Moravia boys basketball team is officially off to their best start in the Quikstats era (since 2006). With their 66-52 win over Moulton-Udell on Saturday, Moravia is now 8-1 this season to mark their best start in more than a decade.

Familiar foes that were once baseball and football teammates renewed their pleasantries before becoming opponents on the hardwood. It was Moulton-Udell that avenged their loss earlier this season by winning a 43-40 barnburner over Seymour.
Saturday marked the second meeting already this season between the Warriorettes and the Lady Eagles. In the end, No. 5 Seymour claimed another big victory over Moulton-Udell, 54-33.

In a little Bluegrass Conference Saturday afternoon action, the Moulton-Udell girls were able to pick up their first win of the season holding off Orient-Macksburg 51-47. Meanwhile, the boys suffered their third straight defeat to start the season falling in a close one to the Bulldogs 44-43.

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) released their annual survey this fall on the nation’s high school sports participation numbers. Iowa stayed 19th in the nation in participation with football seeing another decline in participants.

The Bluegrass Conference released their all-conference volleyball selections made by the coaches for this past season. To little surprise, the conference champion Seymour Warriorettes made up a majority of the east division with five selections while Moravia had three and Moulton-Udell had one.

Moulton-Udell had a year of growing pains as they were very young in practically all of their sports. They also always have the battle of dealing with limited numbers as one of the smallest schools in the state. Besides that, there were still a lot of bright spots this season.

Two desperate teams looking to end long losing streaks met on Tuesday with Seymour coming out on top to end a losing streak defeating Moulton-Udell 10-6. The Warriors snapped a six game losing streak while extending the Eagles’ losing streak to 23 games in a row.
Thayda Houser had everything going for her on the rubber for Seymour. The sophomore struck out 17 enroute to Seymour’s 10-2 win over Moulton-Udell.
