MONROE — Just a little over a month after passing Moravia High School’s career wins record of 132, Briar Cochran has now extended the mark to 150.

Cochran picked up four wins at the PCM Mustang Invitational on Saturday, one of two Mohawks to claim individual titles at the meet. Cochran’s win over Knoxville's Joe Hollinrake for the gold at 132 was career win No. 150 for the senior wrestler.

Cochran started the invitational with a 19-5 technical fall over Pekin’s Zach Hammes. The match went 5:46 before the rule book ended it. Facing Des Moines North-Hoover’s Meshach Zarwie in the quarterfinals, Cochran picked up a pin 48 seconds into the second period. That set up a match against Pella’s Ethan Speltz, which ended with a 15-0 shutout for a technical fall in 5:06, setting up the finals bout against Hollinrake.

Moravia’s Nicholas Martin, at 126 pounds, also won an individual title at the meet. For Martin, he claimed the title with two contested victories. He received a first-round bye, then picked up back-to-back pins before winning by injury default in the title match.

Martin pinned Gilbert’s Garrison Holck in 3:02 to set up the semifinal match. There, he pinned Pekin’s Clayton Greiner in 43 seconds for his title bout.

Quinton Casteel was a runner-up at 220 pounds for the Mohawks. Casteel started the day with a first-round bye, and then pinned Westwood’s Dalton Craven in 4:50. Casteel recorded a 5:31 pin over Carlisle’s Jacob Henkelman in the semifinals to get a championship bout. In the first place match, he fell by 7-2 decision to Knoxville’s undefeated Travis Poffenbarger to take second place.

Also winning places for Moravia was Allen Parlier and Logan Mitchell, who both took fourth in their respective weight classes. Jacob Martin earned a fifth place finish while Dallas Price took home seventh.

The Mohawks took sixth place overall out of the 15 teams at the meeting. With nine wrestlers they beat seventh place Chariton by two points. Chariton, out of Class 2-A, brought 13 wrestlers to the meet.

Westwood won the PCM team title with 187.5 points. Knoxville was second followed by host school PCM in third. Gilbert’s full lineup of wrestlers took four place overall and Pleasantville finished 8.5 points ahead of Moravia in fifth.

Moravia will host their first dual meet of the season tonight. The Mohawk grapplers will host Pleasantville, North Mahaska and Twin Cedars in the new gymnasium at Moravia High School, starting at 6 p.m. Moravia will attend the WACO, Wayland wrestling tournament on Saturday.
