With Moravia’s 58-50 win over Orient-Macksburg on Tuesday, the Mohawks completed an undefeated month of December going 8-0 to improve their season record to 9-1 entering the break.

The break doesn’t come at a better time for the Lady Mohawks, who are severely banged up with injuries. The good news is that they are entering the break on a high note after defeating Orient-Macksburg 50-42 on Tuesday night.

MOULTON — Last year, these two played three great games against one another including an overtime thriller in the playoffs. This year started with another close battle with Moulton-Udell coming out on top with a 38-31 win over Moravia.

MOULTON — The Moravia boys basketball team is officially off to their best start in the Quikstats era (since 2006). With their 66-52 win over Moulton-Udell on Saturday, Moravia is now 8-1 this season to mark their best start in more than a decade.

For the second game in a row, Moravia dug themselves into an early hole. The Mohawks were one again able to dig themselves out defeating Twin Cedars 51-48 after trailing by double digits.

It wasn’t looking good at the start. It was looking like another night of struggling to score for the Lady Mohawks. Instead, big rallies in the second and third quarter and a couple of scores in clutch time helped Moravia get their first win of the season defeating Twin Cedars 44-41.

KNOXVILLE — The Centerville and Moravia wrestling teams competed in their second Saturday tournaments of the season this past weekend. Centerville would finish fourth as a team with 106 points while Moravia took eighth place with 51 points, finishing just two points behind Nevada.

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) released their annual survey this fall on the nation’s high school sports participation numbers. Iowa stayed 19th in the nation in participation with football seeing another decline in participants.

The Bluegrass Conference released their all-conference volleyball selections made by the coaches for this past season. To little surprise, the conference champion Seymour Warriorettes made up a majority of the east division with five selections while Moravia had three and Moulton-Udell had one.

There were certainly a few concerns for Moravia football entering the season on whether or not they would be able to follow up on a 9-2 season last year. As it would turn out, those concerns would be too much to overcome as Denny Whitlow’s Mohawks suffered their first losing season since 2014.

MORAVIA — Spectators from Moravia and nearby Seymour packed inside of the gym at Moravia High School in what was one of the more lively crowds of the season. They would witness an impressive display from No. 14 Seymour as they dispatched Moravia 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-7) on Thursday night.

It’s the busiest week of the season for the Lady Mohawks, who play five matches this week. After dropping two matches on the road on Monday, Moravia was able to grab a split on Tuesday defeating Diagonal 2-0 (25-20, 27-25) before falling to Murray 2-0 (25-5, 25-12).
