It was a perfect week for the Moravia softball team as they rattled off an undefeated week, going 6-0. Jessica Self a major reason why the Lady Mohawks won last week as she dominated at the plate and on the rubber.
The senior had an impact in all six games last week. In Moravia’s 3-1 win against Central Decatur, Self came in and struck out the final two batters to get the save. She then hit a game-tying solo home run against Murray before getting the win on the rubber. In the Lady Mohawks’ 10-2 win against Orient-Macksburg, Self pitched the last three innings getting eight strikeouts.
Self then held off a late Seymour rally to get the 2-1 win while pitching a complete game. Then at the Montezuma Tournament, Self pitched a complete game shutout against Montezuma only surrendering three hits and one walk while striking out 11 in seven innings. To cap off the week, she went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs in Moravia’s 12-2 win over GMG, Garwin.
Self was 9-for-20 (.450 batting average) on the week at the plate with three doubles, one home run, eight RBIs and two walks. She was also 3-0 (five appearances, three starts) on the rubber only allowing five runs (three earned) on 16 hits with four walks and 30 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings, which was good enough for a 1.09 ERA for the week.
On the season, Self leads the team with a .405 batting average while also leading the team in hits (17), doubles (five) and home runs (one). She is also second on the team in RBIs with 11.
In the circle, Self is 3-3 with a 2.65 ERA. She has 41 strikeouts against 12 walks in 39 2/3 innings.
Self and Moravia (9-4) face Twin Cedars (13-2) at home on Monday at 6 p.m.
