The Seymour and Centerville girls basketball teams have had to scrimmage against themselves all summer and fall. Finally, at the Wayne Jamboree, they were able to get a glimpse at what they can do against other competition, albeit if it was just for a pair of eight minute halves.

This year there was only one Redette representing Centerville among the South Central All-Conference volleyball teams. That lone representative was Chasity Cowan, who was selected to the second team while fellow teammates Caitlyn Krull, Kyla Moore and Claire Mathews were honorable mentions.

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) released their annual survey this fall on the nation’s high school sports participation numbers. Iowa stayed 19th in the nation in participation with football seeing another decline in participants.

The seventh and eight grade football teams for Centerville put together a couple of fantastic seasons this year. The two played their final games of the year last week against Clarke. The seventh graders would lose 14-8 while the eighth graders won 22-0.

Centerville welcomed Kirksville into Howar Gym on Monday with the Missourians making the short trip across the state boarders for the match. Kirksville made the trip worth it as they discarded Centerville 3-0 (25-14, 28-26, 25-11).

Down but not out. It’s been a bad stretch for the Redettes who have lost six out of their last seven matches. But Centerville coach Tom Hill was happy with his girls’ effort in their 3-1 (25-19, 25-15, 20-25, 25-17) loss to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.

OSKALOOSA — The Centerville cross country were among several impressive teams running at the Oskaloosa Invite this year. Individually, Centerville’s runners ran pretty well but many other talented teams placed the boys in 16th while the girls finished 15th.
