FAIRFIELD — The Big Reds tennis team were eliminated at districts last week.

Against even more difficult competition than they faced at the conference meet, Centerville would go 0-4 to end their day early.

In singles, Korey Shondel fell 6-2, 6-1 in the first round to Fairfield’s Will Sheppard while Austin Dell fell to Fort Madison’s Reed Fehseke 6-0, 6-0.

Centerville’s doubles teams both lost a pair of hard-fought matches in the first round. Brady Hughes and Reece Sells would drop a three-set match to Mount Pleasant’s David Nguyen and Jack Schimmelpfennig (6-2, 3-6, 6-1).

Jakob Bauer and Otis Williams suffered a heart-breaking defeat after winning the first set 6-2 against Notre Dame’s Tyler Dameron and Dylan McElderry. Bauer and Williams would then drop the next two sets 6-4 and 8-6 to end their season.

Centerville doesn’t have any seniors on the team this year and could potentially return all six of their players from this year’s team at districts.
