BURLINGTON — After a disappointing end at sectionals last year, Centerville were able to squeeze by and advance to districts after a third place finish with a team score of 348, two shots worse than last year’s score when they didn’t advance.
Mount Pleasant led the way with a score of 318 while Notre Dame/West Burlington took second with a score of 343. The top two teams qualify but since Notre Dame/West Burlington was the host and made the top two, the third place team also advances.
Kaleb Cochran had the low score on the day for the Big Reds, taking fourth place individually with a 78. Cannon Riggall’s 79 and Cole Cooper’s 80 would round out Centerville’s big three.
Kyler Pettibone and Austin White both carded 111s while Trayton Smith finished with a 141.
The Big Reds advance to districts where they will play a familiar course in Edmundson Golf Course. They won their third straight conference title at that same course last week.
Centerville will try to qualify for state as a team for the first time since 2015 on Thursday at 10 a.m. in Oskaloosa.
