A Centerville man was sentenced to 10 years in prison after a plea in a sexual abuse case.

Scott Alan Nelson, 40, of Centerville, was sentenced Monday to a lesser charge of third-degree sexual abuse, a class C felony, after he pled guilty to the charge. It is Nelson's second conviction for sexual abuse, as he was convicted of forcible rape in Lafayette County, Missouri in 2007.

Nelson will be required to register on the sex offender registry for the rest of his life. he was also fined $1,000. A misdemeanor charge of domestic abuse was dismissed.

He was charged with second-degree sexual abuse, a class B felony, in November. Police said he forced a female victim onto a couch, placed his hands over her throat, and threatened to kill her if she did not let him have sex with her.

After the sex act, police said Nelson showed a large knife to the victim and asked for the victim to kill him. Nelson also made death threats and suicide threats over text message to the victim, police said.

Nelson was originally facing up to 25 years in prison on the original charge.
