James Sanders has recently opened Edgewater Retreat just outside of Moravia. To get to the venue, drivers can turn off of Highway 5 into the parking lot of the ADLM building and then continue north until the reach the building.

Sanders said that he wanted to build a venue that could be used for weddings, parties and other gatherings that would be available at a reasonable price.

‘It’s taken three years to build,” said Sanders.

Edgewater Retreat is also a restaurant. Sanders said that the restaurant opened near the end of August and offers lunch and dinner. Sanders said he also doesn’t serve alcohol at the moment.

“I’ve got a Panera Bread type menu, soups, sandwiches, paninis, salads, burgers, stuffed potatoes,” said Sanders.

Sanders said the restaurant’s schedule might change in the future as he gets more bookings, especially on the weekends, but for now, the schedule is Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Although Sanders said he will serve anyone who comes in before closing as it is a pet peeve of his when he goes to a restaurant before closing time and is told that the grill is already shut down.

A couple of events have already been booked for the next month or so. Sanders said that so and far he has been getting the word out about the venue through Facebook and word of mouth.

Sanders said the venue can easily hold up to 300 people or more in the 8,700 square feet of space it offers. Beyond the kitchen for the restaurant, the facility also features bathrooms, a bride’s ready room, a 60x70 foot dance floor and a stage.

The building has geothermal floor heat and air conditioning. There is also an outdoor area that overlooks a seven acre lake on the property.

Sanders said people can rent Edgewater for a few hours, a day or a weekend. Sanders said renters are welcome to use the tables and chairs on hand. He can also cater events if the renters would like, or they can bring in their own food or bring in another caterer. However, since Edgewater’s kitchen is part of a restaurant, only certified caterers can use it.

Sanders said he will serve anyone who comes in before closing as it is a pet peeve of his when he goes to a restaurant before closing time and is told that the grill is already shut down.
