Appanoose County Fair Queen Contestants

The following are the 2014 Appanoose County Fair Queen contestants. The Queen judging will be held on Thursday, July 17 at the First United Methodist Church in Centerville at 6:30 p.m. and the crowning will be held on Monday, July 21 at the fairgrounds. 

• McKinlee Maletta is the 18-year-old daughter of Heather Maletta and Rodger Maletta. McKinlee is a recent graduate of Moravia High School. While in school, McKinlee was active in National Honor Society, Mohawk Voices, Show Choir and FCCLA. McKinlee served as the Senior Class Vice President and was the football manager. She is also active in the Moravia Farmhand 4-H Club, Youth Council and 4-H Adult Committee. Honors received include Miss Moravia 2013, 2013 Homecoming Queen, 2014 Prom Queen and Dansworth Award. Her hobbies are spending time with family and friends, watching movies and going to school sporting events. McKinlee’s future plans are to attend Indian Hills Community College in Centerville to receive her Associates of Arts degree. She then plans to transfer to William Penn University to obtain her BA in Elementary Education.

• Jayci Inman is the 17-year-old daughter of Greg and Jerilyn Inman. Jayci will be a senior this fall at Moulton-Udell High School. Jayci is active in jazz band, marching band, pep band, concert band, volleyball, basketball and FFA. Jayci served as the Junior Class Vice President and FFA Secretary and was on the Moulton-Udell Trap Shoot Team. She is also active in the Wells Rustlers 4-H Club, 4-H Youth Council, Iowa Short Course Racing Series, Iowa ATV Hare Scramble Racing Series, Indian Hills Leap Academy and is a Candid Photography Senior Model. Honors received include numerous 4-H, academic and athletic awards and FFA Greenhand and Chapter Degrees. Her hobbies are riding and racing atvs, target shooting, hunting and community service projects. Jayci will attend Indian Hills Community Regional Academy this fall while finishing her senior year at Moulton-Udell High School. She plans to graduate with her Paramedic Certificate and Associates in Arts and Sciences Degree.

• Skyler Lawson is the 17-year-old daughter of Gregg and Tiffany Lawson. Skyler will be a senior at Centerville High School this fall. Skyler is active in Student Council, National Honor Society, speech, drama, choir, marching band, jazz band, concert band, football cheerleading and wrestling cheerleading. She is also active in the Exline Ramblers 4-H Club, 4-H Youth Council, municipal band and is an active Life Serve blood donor.  Honors received include Kent Rinaberger Award, All-Conference Academic Award, 4.0 Honor Roll and 2013 and 2014 wrestling cheerleader MVP. Her hobbies are playing the drum set, singing, listening to music, reading, scrapbooking and spending time with friends and family. Skyler’s future plans are to attend the University of Iowa to pursue a degree in Music Education.

• Myriah Porter is the 18-year-old daughter of Robert and Bev Porter. Myriah is a recent graduate of Ottumwa High School. While in school, Myriah was active in Operation Smile, FEA, Homecoming Float Committee, Student of the Week and was the House Manager for the school play. She is also active in the M&M Pioneers 4-H Club and 4-H Youth Council. Her hobbies are volunteering and working with children. Myriah plans to attend Indian Hills to obtain her LPN and then transfer to Louisiana State University to obtain her BSN. She would like to become a nurse in the NICU.

• Katie Bratz is the 17-year-old daughter of Beth Burgin and Ronnie Bratz. Katie will be a senior this fall at Centerville High School. Katie is active in FFA, cheerleading and choir. She is also active in church, the YMCA and helps with the Drake Public Library summer program. Honors received include FFA Star Greenhand and Chapter Degree, honor roll, Coaches Appreciation award and numerous 4-H awards. Her hobbies are helping on the farm, helping at the YMCA and being with her family. Katie’s future plans are to start the nursing program this fall while finishing her senior year at Centerville High School. After graduation, she plans to further her education to obtain her RN degree and study Agricultural Business.

• Melanie McGill is the 17-year-old daughter of Mark and Myra McGill. Melanie is a recent honor graduate of Centerville High School. While in school, Melanie was active in band, color guard and National Honor Society.  She is also active in dance, Municipal Band, Band Europe Trip, 4-H and Youth Council. Honors received include Danforth National Leadership award and Rainbow Cookbook award. Her hobbies are dancing, reading, baking, quilting, sewing and spending time with friends and family. Melanie plans to attend Indian Hills this fall to complete her Associates degree. She will then transfer to University of Northern Iowa to receive her Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She eventually would like to return to Appanoose County to live and obtain a job in teaching.

• Jenna Inman is the 18-year-old daughter of Greg and Jerilyn Inman. Jenna is a recent honor graduate of Moulton-Udell High School. While in school, Jenna was active in jazz band, marching band, pep band, concert band, volleyball and FFA. Jenna served as the Senior Class Secretary and was on the Moulton-Udell Trap Shoot Team. She is also active in the Wells Rustlers 4-H Club, 4-H Youth Council, Iowa Short Course Racing Series and Iowa ATV Hare Scramble Racing Series. Honors received include numerous 4-H and academic awards, 2014 Prom Queen and placed third in the 2013 ISCS Women’s Class. Her hobbies are community service projects, fishing, hunting and riding and racing atvs. Jenna is currently attending Indian Hills Community College and majoring in Radiology with an emphasis on 4D Ultrasound.

• Emily Steinbach is the 17-year-old daughter of Michael and Connie Steinbach. Emily will be a senior this fall at Centerville High School. Emily is active in cheerleading, tennis, FCCLA, jazz band, concert band, marching band, choir, speech, Student Council, National Honor Society, Drama Club and musicals. She is also active in the B.V. Sodbusters 4-H Club, Youth Council, Church Youth Group, Faith United Methodist Church Education Committee and teaches at Sheree’s Flip Flop Tumbling. Honors received include Honor Roll and numerous 4-H, music and academic awards. Her hobbies are dancing, tumbling, cheerleading, drawing, painting, babysitting, scrapbooking, crafting and feeding bottle calves. Emily’s future plans are to attend the University of Iowa and major in Pediatrics. She plans to further her education to become a Pediatric Oncologist.
