The Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championships event was founded in 2015 to continue on the tradition of the Hershey Track and Field Games in Iowa.

Like its predecessor, the Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championships is a free, statewide event that requires no special equipment to participate. Local meets are hosted all around Iowa, giving participants a chance to compete in their hometowns. Local meet champions will have the opportunity to participate in the state meet held in Marshalltown on June 22.

This is the first year Centerville has hosted a youth track meet. The original date for the meet was set for May 18th but due to weather was postponed until May 31. The event took place at Lakeview Track and Field.

“Despite having to reschedule and conflicts with other activities, we still had a great turnout. Around 25 kids participated," Taren Whisler said. “This will definitely continue to be an annual event every spring.”

The events that took place were the 50-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 4x100-meter relay, softball throw and long jump.

“This is a great opportunity for kids to get out of the house, off their screens or off their couch and engage in some fun physical activity," Whisler said.

Brown’s Shoe Store, Instyle Salon, and HoneyCreek Resort donated all the prizes for the kids. Volunteering were Henry Ortmann, Tom Carson, Darrin and Sonja Carson, Gage Carson, Jaicee Bettis, Nic and Amy Belloma, Mendy Kratofil, Jen Haden, Meggie Blozovich, Chris Kanselaar, Molly Heims, and Sam Hash.
