Throwback Thursday: The Legendary J & J (J & K) Market

Did you know that what we have all come to know as “J&K Market” actually started out at “J&J Market”? It was February 1970 when John Koestner and Jim Turner opened their food store on the north side of the square. Soon after opening, Kris Koestner became his father’s business partner and the store became the iconic J&K Market that we knew for the past 40-plus years before closing in the just past couple of years. The Daily Iowegian and the Appanoose County Historical and Coal Mining Museum are partnering together to bring our readers “Throwback Thursday.” Watch each Thursday’s Daily Iowegian for a look at the past of Appanoose County.
