OTTUMWA — Indian Hills Head Basketball Coach Hank Plona was charged early Monday morning with operating while intoxicated after testing for more than twice the legal limit.
The arrest report showed Plona, 33, was pulled over at Second and Market streets at 12:20 a.m. Monday. He blew a 0.193 percent on a breathalyzer test. The limit in Iowa is 0.8 percent.
"We are aware of the situation involving Coach Plona," Indian Hills athletic director Brett Monaghan said. "We're reviewing all the information and will determine the appropriate action in the upcoming days."
Police charged Plona with operating while intoxicated second offense. It was not immediately clear when or where the first offense took place.
The state’s online courts database did not have a file on the case as of Monday afternoon. Such files include the arresting officer’s account, and would shed more light on the incident.
Plona could not be reached for comment.
