Redettes grab first regional win since ’08

INDIANOLA — May 28, 2008 was the last time the Centerville Redettes soccer team celebrated a post-season victory.

The Redettes won both the regional opener and quarterfinal that year. The win propelled the team into the regional final game, where they lost. Still, that’s the furthest a Centerville girls’ soccer team has ever advanced into regional play.

Centerville will he hoping to at least duplicate the success of the 2008 season this year.

On Wednesday night, the Redettes bested Creston 2-0 to open regional play, beginning what will be a tough journey. Cassidy Schacher scored both goals in the first half for the Redettes.

A tough test lies ahead for the Redettes (4-10), however. They travel to Bondurant tonight to face No. 11 Bondurant-Farrar in the regional quarterfinal at 6 p.m.

Wednesday’s regional opener was originally scheduled for Tuesday. However, the threat of stormy weather changed those plans.
