Redettes take second at SCC

OSKALOOSA — The Albia girls golf team accounted for the top three places at the South Central Conference Invitational Tuesday at Harvest Point Golf Course.

The Blue Demons were spearheaded by Lexi VanPolen, who posted the top score of 88 strokes. Emily Scala complemented her teammate’s efforts by capturing runner-up honors with 91 and Cassie Crall fired a 92.

Centerville captured second with a collective score of 390 strokes, Davis County placed third with 427 strokes, and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont came in fourth with 452.

Leah Scott served as the Big Reds’ bellwether leader, posting a 93 and corralling fourth overall. Her teammate, Bailey Johnson, also cracked the top 10, she came in seventh, by posting a 96. Meanwhile, Blair Bodkins was at the vanguard of the Mustangs’ success, shooting a 98 and taking ninth overall, and Albia’s Maria Maddy finished with a 95 and took sixth overall.

Lauren Bupp led Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont with a 93 and placed fifth and Chariton’s Tiffany Dale shot a 100 for the Chargers. Other scores include the Mustangs’ Skylar Yahnke and the Big Reds’ Cameron Moorman both posting an 100.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
