Huisman nominated for award

Centerville Big Reds baseball coach Bill Huisman has been named a finalist for a national award.

The National High School Athletic Coaches Association has named Huisman one of the eight finalists around the country vying for the high school baseball coach of the year award.

The award winner will be named at the national convention on June 18 at the Snow King Resort in Jackson Hole, Wyo.

Huisman was selected for this national honor by the state’s high school coaches’ association. This selection was based on longevity, service to high school athletics, honors, championship years and winning percentage.

The nominees and finalists are evaluated by experts in the field of coaching using sport-specific rubrics to assign points in each category.

The National High School Athletic Coaches Association is the oldest coaches association in the nation and has been recognizing coaches of the year since 1978.
