Wayne girls win class at Eddyville

EDDYVILLE — The Wayne Lady Falcons track team took first place by a landslide at Tuesday’s 2014 Eddyville Relays girls’ track meet.

Wayne recorded 208 points to finish first out of the eight teams who competed in the Class “B” female division.

The Lady Falcons had wins from Demi Austin in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Olivia Byrns picked up another Wayne individual win in the 400 meter dash with Bailey Andrews taking first in the 100 meter hurdles.

In field events, Breanna Fortune took first in the discus and shot put.

The Lady Falcons also swept the relay events, posting winning times in the 1,600 meter distance medley, 800 meter sprint medley, and the shuttle hurdle, as well as the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays.

Over in the Class “A” female division, the Centerville Redettes recorded 29 points to finish eighth.

Rachel Valentine recorded a throw of 102’3” to take second in the discus event, and was the highest finishing Redette on the night.

Centerville’s Cassidy Schacher had a third place finish in the 800 meter run to round out Centerville’s top-three finishers at the meet.

Tomorrow, the Wayne girls’ team will be in Chariton while the boys will be in Mt. Ayr. The boys and girls from Centerville will be in action tomorrow when the girls will be in Chariton with the Wayne Lady Falcons. The Big Reds track team will be in Davis County.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
