OSCEOLA — The Centerville Redettes saw their season come to an end in the first round of regional play against the Clarke Indians.
Centerville held the No. 3 (3-A) Indians scoreless through four innings of play, forcing Clarke to strand four base runners during that span.
In the bottom of the fifth, however, the Indians began to open the floodgates. Clarke’s Sydnee Redman homered to centerfield to break the scoreless tie. Four at-bats later, Vanessa Bakley hit a two-run home run to left field to give the Indians a 3-0 lead.
In the sixth inning, Clarke scored four runs, expanding their lead to 7-0.
The Redettes were denied a hit as Clarke’s Libby Bemis led last year’s Class 3-A runner-up to a no-hit, shut-out. Libby Sebolt and Sara Howard were the only Redettes to reach the base paths, both by walks, to prevent the perfect game.
Centerville (18-5, 3-7 in SCC) says goodbye to a class of seven seniors, as Katie Ahnen, Bayliegh Johnson, Maddison Lange, Sydney Ocker, Kiley Micetich, Kaitlyn Moore and Hannah Sheston end their high school softball careers.
