Mohawks shutout ICA

DES MOINES — The Moravia Mohawks picked up a 5-0 shutout victory over Iowa Christian Academy on Thursday, as they improved their overall record to 7-12.

Moravia opened up the game out of the gate with a four-run first inning.

Tyler Knapp hit a two-out double to centerfield, plating Avery Waybill after Waybill had drew a two-out walk to reach the bases.

Knapp would score when Jake Martin hit a single to centerfield in the next at-bat. Martin would cross home plate with a two-out, two-run home run to centerfield by Austin Wilson, giving the Mohawks a 4-0 lead.

The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
