Seymour beats Melcher-Dallas

MELCHER — The Seymour Warriorettes broke up a three-game losing streak Friday, as they recorded a 6-0 win on the road over the Melcher-Dallas Saints.

Eighth grader Ali Enright allowed just four hits in her seven innings of work. Her six strikeouts propelled her and the Warriorettes to the shutout victory.

Seymour began the game with two runs early. They would bring three more across the plate in the fifth and one more in the sixth en route to the win.

Amongst the six runs scored by Seymour was a home run by sophomore Ashtin Glenn. She went 2-for-4 on the day with two RBIs.

Freshman Maggie Helmick led the team offensively with a 3-for-4 performance, with a double and an RBI.

Seymour (8-4) will be in Orient-Macksburg tonight before hosting Melcher-Dallas again on Thursday. They wrap up the week in Moravia on Friday.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
