Moulton grabs first win

MOULTON — The Moulton-Udell Lady Eagles finally captured their first win of the season at their own softball tournament on Saturday.

Moulton beat Harmony 8-6 in the first of two games they played Saturday.

Freshman Katie Selvy picked up the win from the pitcher’s circle after going six innings, allowing seven hits and throwing five strikeouts.

“We have started to play better ball this week,” Moulton-Udell head softball coach Jason Ogden said. “We aren’t giving teams a lot of extra outs like we had been earlier in the year. We have been making plays and really showing signs of improvement. We are having good at-bats at the plate, but not a lot to show for it yet. I like our look at the plate. We just need to break through and get on a roll.”

Moulton-Udell closed the tournament with a 12-4 loss against Grandview Park Baptst.

Moulton-Udell (1-13, 0-4 in BGC) will host Diagonal tonight in a V/JV doubleheader starting at 6 p.m.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"

A. I support the ordinance
B. I do not support the ordinance
C. Not sure
