IHCC wins in nine-inning slugfest

The Indian Hills Falcons scored their 24th win on Wednesday, in a home game that saw a combined 25 runs scored on 28 hits.

The Falcons jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings of play. However, the Southeastern Blackhawks would score seven runs in the fourth inning to give themselves a 7-4 lead.

Indian Hills would respond with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to narrow the game to 7-6.

After each side scored one run in the fifth inning, Southeastern would put together a two-run sixth and one-run seventh inning to take an 11-7 lead over Indian Hills.

A lead-off single by Indian Hills’ Caleb Ratzman would lead to a five-run eighth inning that gave Indian Hills a 12-11 advantage.

Along with Ratzman, Joel Booker, Junior Santos, Paulo Montezuma and Mitch Langer came around to score in the inning.

Southeastern would tie the game with a run in the top of the ninth.

In the bottom of the ninth, Indian Hills would pick up the 13-12 win with a walk-off single by Joel Fuentes that would score Kyle Keck.

Indian Hills (24-11, 6-2 in ICCAC) will host Marshalltown Community College in an ICCAC conference series Friday and Saturday. Friday’s doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. with Saturday’s action beginning at 1 p.m.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
