Girls conditioning camp to be held at CHS

A strength and conditioning coach from the Iowa State University athletics program will be hosting a strength and speed camp on April 21 for female athletes of Howar Junior High and Centerville High Schools.

Coach Andrew Moser, M.ED., is a former Iowa State football player and has over 13 years in the Iowa State University strength and condition program. He began as a graduate assistant from 2001-03 before joining the Cyclones athletics staff in July 2003. He oversees the conditioning programs for 17 varsity teams at Iowa State, with specific attention given to the men’s basketball program at Iowa State.

Moser is a Guttenberg native. He is a NSCA registered strength and conditioning coach and also has a club coach certification through USA Weightlifting.

The program will be held Monday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Centerville High School gym and weight room for female athletes in grades 7-12.

There will be no cost to participate, however interested persons must sign up by Wednesday, April 16.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
