---- — COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Indian Hills Falcons started off a two-day conference series with a twin bill split on Saturday.

The Falcons beat the No. 15-ranked Iowa Western Reivers 8-6 in game one before they would fall in game two by the score, 12-4.

A two-out single by Mitch Langer eventually became the Indian Hills Falcons’ first run of the game in the second inning. Langer advanced to second on a five-pitch walk to Jake Lewis. Langer would score on a single by Mike Levar to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons’ Edgar Lebron singled to reach first in the top of the third inning. He was sacrificed over to second base by Caleb Ratzman before eventually stealing third. Lebron would score to give Indian Hills a 2-0 lead as Joel Booker reached first base on an error by the Iowa Western third baseman. In the next at-bat, Dario Polanco connected for a triple to score Booker, giving the Falcons a 3-0 lead.

The Reivers would break their silence in the bottom of the third, bringing around Don Thompson-Wlliams and Jacob Sheldon-Collins

The Falcons would add one more run in the fourth inning. Mike Levar hit a triple before he would score on a single from Lebron, giving the Falcons a 4-2 lead.

Two straight strikeouts to start the fifth inning made it appear as though the Falcons would be retired quietly. Not so fast, however. Paulo Montezuma would connect for a two-out solo shot to give the Falcons a 5-2 lead. After Langer drew a walk, he would score on a double by Jake Lewis, giving the Falcons a 6-2 lead. In the next at-bat, Levar would hit a two-out RBI double to score Lewis for the Falcons’ seventh run of the game.

The Reivers would respond with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, narrowing the score down to 7-3. After a scoreless sixth inning for both sides, the Falcons would score one more run in the top of the seventh, when Levar hit an RBI single to plate Langer.

Two walks and a single by Iowa Western would load the bases with no out to begin the bottom of the seventh inning. The Reviers’ Quinn Carpenter would connect for a double to give Iowa Western two runs and put runners at second and third with no-out.

After that, the Falcons would call in Jose Marin, who would strike out the next two batters. A wild pitch would plate Iowa Western’s Jason McMurray, making the score 8-6. However, Alex Crowl would flyout to second base, ending the game and giving the Falcons the win.

The Falcons did not fare as well in game nightcap of Saturday’s twin bill. Iowa Western would outscore the Falcons 12-4 to split the first of two doubleheaders. Indian Hills recorded eight errors on defense during the nightcap.

Indian Hills (21-10, 4-2 in ICCAC) played two more conference games in Council Bluffs against Iowa Western (27-6, 5-1 in ICCAC) on Sunday. Results of those games were not available before the Daily Iowegian went to press.

The Falcons’ JV squad will host Central College today at 3 p.m. Tomorrow, Indian Hills will travel to Ft. Dodge for a varsity/JV doubleheader against Iowa Central Community College, beginning at 2 p.m.

The Falcons host Southeastern Community College on April 9 at 4 p.m. before they host another ICCAC pair of twin bills against Marshalltown Community College on Saturday and Sunday. The first doubleheader, on Saturday, begins at 1 p.m. with Sunday’s action getting underway at 12 p.m.
