CORYDON — The Wayne County Falcons return eight runners from their 2011 team, as they lost one boy and two girls off their squad.

"We return most of our runners for both boys and girls," head cross country coach Dave Mason said. "But, the boys will miss Bryce Carpenter who often led the boys last year."

The Wayne County boys team placed second in the Pride of Iowa conference meet last year.

"We should be stronger overall on both the boys' and girls' squads," Mason said. "We have added extra depth and hope to avoid the injuries that hurt us last year."

James Rhodes, Mick Wilson and Aaron Palmer are the returning seniors this year. Other starters who return are Lorenzo Baker, Tyler Jamieson, Isaac Palmer, Emily Bellon and Olivia Byrns. Ryan Shivers and Levi Overstreet are two other notables on the team this season.

Mason said Nodaway Valley (Greenfield) and Corning are his picks for the boys and girls titles, respectively.
