CENTERVILLE – The Centerville Big Red basketball team played host to Oskaloosa in a non-conference contest on Monday.

After a tight contest through one half of play, Oskaloosa opened the second half by outscoring the Big Reds 24-10. Centerville fought back in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough as Oskaloosa rolled to a 63-53 victory.

“This was a tough, physical game. We knew it would be and I thought we responded well to the challenge,” said Centerville head coach Jeff Moore. “The guys were focused on what we wanted to do defensively, especially on Tyler Sash. We were able to get to the free-throw line quite a bit. Mike Humphrey, Patrick Harshman and Cameron Hindley did a tremendous job chasing Sash and making things difficult for him. We had a lull during the third quarter that allowed Oskaloosa to widen their lead, but other than that, we went toe to toe with a very good 4A team.”

John Cochran paced the Centerville offense with 18 points while Jason Conrad and Brendyn Hawkins scored seven points each in the effort.

Centerville (7-6, 4-3) is scheduled to travel to Osceola tonight to take on the SCC-leading Clarke Indians.
