Moulton-Udell advanced to the next round of district action after defeating Moravia on Tuesday night with a score of 11-8.

“We were fortunate to advance as we made it very difficult for ourselves committing seven errors in the first four innings,” said Coach Brent Martsching.

Colton Probasco hit a home run in the first inning to get things rolling for the Eagles. They put up three runs in the first inning, but Moravia came back with three of their own to knot the score.

The second inning both teams scored one run.

In the third the Mohawks pulled ahead with one run and picked up two more in the fourth to give them the lead and force the Eagles to step it up a notch if they were going to move on in the tournament.

After a quick pep talk between innings from Martsching, the Eagles seemed to get into the game.

Chase Kirby started off the fifth inning with a home run and soon the bases were loaded and the Moravia pitchers were struggling to get ahead.

The Eagles put up six runs in the inning and followed with one in the sixth to secure the district win.

Zeb Guinn was on the mound with four strikeouts and improved his record to 7-2 this season.

“Guinn returned 10 of the last 11 batters he faced in picking up his seventh win of the season,” said Martsching.

Probasco and Zach Schoonover were both two-for-four with two runs. Probasco had four RBIs to lead the team.

Guinn had two hits while Kyle Neher, Dyllan Lawson, Michael Waybill and Quentin Fowler each had one hit for the Eagles.

Scoring runs were Guinn, Neher, Lawson, Waybill, Fowler, Clinton Scott and Kalen Martsching.

The boys will return to Moravia tonight when they face Cardinal in the second round of districts.

If they win they will play on Tuesday in Ottumwa for their chance to make it to the state tournament.

Game time is set for 7 p.m. tonight.
