The Howar Junior High seventh grade boys basketball team improved their record to 4-0 after defeating Chariton and Eddyville/Blakesburg earlier this month.

On Dec. 4 the team hosted Chariton and defeated the Chargers 47-24 in the “A” game and 33-26 in the “B” game.

In the “A” game Kolton Gonnerman led the team with 10 points while Michael Starcevich and Garrett Faris each scored eight points for Centerville. Also scoring for the team were Gabe Cowan, Garrett Moorman, Dillon Chandler and Grant Walker each with four points and Jared Armington and JD McDanel each had two points in the win.

The “B” game was led by Michael Runyan with 16 points followed by Trevor Graham with four and Damon Hoffman added three for the team.

“The boys played a tough game against Chariton. I was very happy to see the boys move the ball around to the open guy for the score,” said Coach Alan Huisman.

On Dec. 11 the team traveled to Eddyville/Blakesburg to take on the Rockets.

During the “A” game Centerville won with a final score of 50-39 behind the efforts of Gonnerman with 14 points followed by Starcevich with 11 and Armington with 10. Faris put up eight points on the scoreboard.

“The boys played a good game against E-B. It was the toughest game we had all year. They are a good team. We moved the ball around well as a team and all the players contributed some pionts in the game. We will need to move the ball around well agasint Osky and play a solid defense to come out with a win,” said Huisman.

The boys will play Oskaloosa today with the “A” game starting at 4:15 p.m. followed by the “B” and “C” games.
