The Howar Junior High eighth grade Redettes have hit the home court twice in the last two weeks. The team hosted Chariton on Sept. 18 and Eddyville-Blakesburg on Sept. 25. The girls won one of three games in the A competition, winning the first game 21-17. They went on to lose the next two games and the match; 21-18 and 15-11.
MaKenna Pershy and Lynsey Winkel both had kills at the net for Centerville, with the help of setters Jessica Demry and Shelby Royer. MacKenzie Richmond served 8-for-11 with four aces while Royer was 9-for-12 with four aces serves. Pershy also had four aces. Demry helped her team out by placing 82 percent of her passes.
The B team won both of their games, and the match for the Redettes; 21-17, 21-16. Cheyenne Bankson, Winkel, and Kenzie Kruzich were setters for this match. Tamara Chapman went 12 for 15 with 5 ace serves. Kruzich passed 89 percent for the night. The C team lost the first game in a close competition, 21-19 and the second 21-15.
In the A match against Eddyville-Blakesburg, Centerville came out on top, beating the Rockets in two of the three games.
The girls set the ball up a number of times and averaged 66 percent passing, as a team. Pershy served 12-for-13 with seven aces and slammed three kills at the net for the Redettes. Lauren Craver served 7-of-9 with five aces, Mallory Craver went 6-for-7 with 1 ace and Demry went 5-for-7 with three aces. Kruzich led the team in passing accuracy with 80 percent of her passes on target. The B team split the wins with the Rockets in two close games; 21-18, 21-17. Royer and Lauren Craver each scored points for their team by serving 4 aces, and Chapman went 7-for-8 with two aces. The C team lost both of their matches but played tough against Eddyville’s strong servers.
The Redettes will travel to Albia today.
