The Seymour Warriors got off to a fast start Friday night, scoring twice in the first quarter. But both the opposition and the elements would catch up to them as the Harmony Rockets left town with a soggy 54-20 victory.
Quarterback Cody Jellison, bad ankle and all, completed 5-of-7 passes in the opening minutes, hitting Brady McElvain on a 37-yard scoring strike to give the home team the early lead. Dillon Horton balanced the offense with a rushing touchdown before the quarter break and Seymour led 14-6.
The Harmony offense utilized a couple of big plays on a kickoff return and a screen pass to take back the lead, midway thru the second period. From there, the weather and field conditions turned the contest into a ball control, field position battle, with the bigger, more physical visitors taking a 28-20 advantage into the locker room at the half.
After the half, the Warriors were unable to mount a running game and the sloppy conditions hampered any threat thru the air. Harmony took full advantage of the rainy night to slowly widen their lead, as they went on to a 54-20 victory.
Offensively, Jellison was 9-of-24 passing for 190 yards and a touchdown. Horton paced the ground attack for the Warriors with 112 yards in 26 carries and a score. McElvain and Tanner Banks combined for nine receptions, 190 yards and a touchdown.
Horton lead all tacklers with eight stops on the night. Josh Ford, Tim Horman, and Quentin Merritt each had six or more tackles in the contest. Banks, Jalen Jones, and Troy Conger each made four stops, and Jones recovered a Rocket fumble.
Seymour is back on the road this Friday, traveling to Thornburg to face the Tri-County Trojans. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
