It was a big night for the Big Red cross country teams as they brought home a girls team victory and a second place finish for the boy’s squad at the Lake Fisher Invitational on Thursday.
The girls were led by freshmen Avery Schmidt was she crossed the finish line in second place with a time of 17:17. The CHS girls finished four of their top five runners in the top 10 of the meet.
Addie Kepner followed in fifth place with a time of 18:18 while Ashley Sharp was seventh with a time of 18:49 and Megan Sharp was ninth with a time of 19:17. Breezy Poolman was 19th in a time of 20:39 and Megan Mobley was 23rd in a time of 20:59.
“I was really proud of our girls for working hard and placing well,” said coach Matt Kruzich.
The JV girls ran with times of 20:56 by Liz Bogle taking first, Jackie Wells was third with a time of 20:59 and Liz Baum was fourth with a time of 22:19.
Brent Ewing led the boys race picking up the first place finish in a time of 17:34. Nick Kruzich was eight with a time of 19:12, Caleb Baker was tenth in a time of 20:00 followed by Robert Sheets with a time of 20:12 for 11th place.
Tyler Walker was 18th in a time of 21:04 while John Irwin finished 24th in a time of 21:49 and Logan Danko was 28th in a time of 22:27.
The JV boys were led by Justin Ellison in seventh with a time of 24:13, Thad Sells with a time of 24:30 for eighth place while Jay Keeree followed in ninth place with a time of 24:38. Davey Becker rounded out the team in 16th with a time of 32:18.
“The boys team also improved and was only edged by Albia by one point,” said Kruzich.
The teams will compete on Tuesday in Oskaloosa.
