Big Reds one win from state tourney

From the Ottumwa Courier

CENTERVILLE ‹ Coach Bill Huisman and the Centerville baseball team is one win away from the Iowa State Baseball Tournament after a 10-6 victory over Fairfield on Monday.

Centerville will meet Mount Pleasant on Wednesday in Fairfield with a trip to the state tournament on the line. The trip to state would be the Big Reds first since 1995.

Centerville beat Mt. Pleasant 20-5 in the Centerville Tournament in the two teams only meeting this season.

On Monday, Patrick Harshman (11-1) once again took the mound for Centerville. The senior pitched all seven innings and punched out nine Trojan batters. Harshman also recorded a victory for the Big Reds in their win over Chariton on Friday.

³I thought he struggled a little bit tonight,² Huisman said. ³He didn¹t have his best stuff. Tonight he was behind in the count quite a bit. But with the big game, you want your senior out there. I thought he got stronger as the game went along.²

Harshman also did well at the plate with two hits and one RBI. Michael Kauzlarich added three hits, three runs scored and one RBI. Tyler Gray plated two runs in the win and Centerville racked up 13 hits as a team.

³We hit the ball hard,² Huisman said. ³Up and down the lineup, we don¹t have any easy outs. Everyone is hitting it pretty darn hard.²
