The Appanoose County Aces, a 10-and-under ASA traveling softball team, played a double header in Mt. Pleasant on April 26.
The Aces won their opening game against the Hot Stix Maroon 18-2 followed by a win against the Hot Stix Gold 13-7.
The cold weather didn’t slow down the Aces as the team showed continued improvement with their bats. Colleen Boyle went 1-2, Autumn McDanel 3-5, Kendall Brown 3-4, Hannah Eastlick 1-3, Samantha Williams 1-2, Kristen Mathews 2-6, and Peyton Rogers 1-3. Colleen crossed the plate five times, Autumn four, Kendall five, Hannah three, Samantha four, Kristen one, Peyton one. Jaiden Rogers scored three runs for the team, Brooklyn Benjamin one, Emma McDanel one, and Emily Moore two.
Kendall Brown pitched the entire first game striking out 15, walking one and gave up one hit. Collen Boyle did a great job her first time on the mound this season pitching a no hitter in the second game. She struck out 10, and walked 11.
The Aces went to Burlington on May 2-3 to face tough competition in the Sliders Extravaganza. The Aces finished the weekend with two wins and three losses.
The Aces won their games against the Purple Aces of Norwalk and Fairfield Crush. Their losses came from the Tri County Twisters, Missouri Outlaws and the Quad City Firebirds.
Having hits were Autumn McDanel – four; Peyton Rogers – four; Kendall Brown – three; Hannah Eastlick – three; Samantha Williams – three; Colleen Boyle – one; Jaiden Rogers – one; Brooklyn Benjamin – one.
Autumn McDanel had 11 strikeouts for the weekend she walked four and gave up seven hits. Kendall Brown had 12 strikeouts, and walked five. She gave up four hits on Saturday and on Sunday afternoon pitched a no hitter. Colleen Boyle had five strikeouts, eight walks and gave up two hits for the weekend.
The Aces traveled to a one-day tournament in Osceola on May 10. Their season record is now 7-5.
The Appanoose County Aces won the title in their division in Osceola and held their opponents scoreless in three games. Their wins came against the Ankeny Hawkettes 14-0, Waukee Wildcats 16-0 and Winterset Huskies 11-0.
Kendall Brown led the batting with five hits which included two singles, a double, a triple and a grand slam home run; she knocked in 10 runs on the day. Hannah Eastlick had four hits and three RBI’s; Autumn McDanel had three hits and three RBI’s; Peyton Rogers had one hit and four RBI’s; Samantha Williams had a hit and one RBI. Colleen Boyle added one hit for the team and scored five runs; Brooklyn Benjamin had an RBI. Benjamin was also walked four times to score two runs for the Aces. Emma McDanel “Pee Wee Power” drew four walks and scored four runs. Kristen Mathews score three runs after being walked three times. Jaiden Rogers scored three runs and was walked twice.
Autumn McDanel, Kendall Brown and Colleen Boyle all did a great job on the mound for the Aces finishing each game in three innings. Autumn pitched a no-hitter striking out six and walking one. Kendall also pitched a no-hitter striking out eight and walking three. Colleen finished the day striking out nine, walking three and only giving up one hit.
The Aces travled to Burlington for a tournament May 17 and 18.
