FAIRFIELD – The Regional Tournament was the end of the road for four Centerville Redette tennis players, but a stepping stone to the state tournament for the Redette doubles duo of Allison Berner and Heather Buttel.

Berner and Buttel dominated the competition, defeating four other doubles teams without losing a set, including a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the finals over Bonnie Carter and Sheila Higgins of Maharishi.

“I couldn't be happier for Heather and Allison. They've put in the extra hours of practice and hard work for four years and are extremely deserving of this honor,” said Redette head coach Barb Climie. “Mental toughness is as much about winning tennis as is skill proficiency. These young ladies came ready to play today, believing they were winners, and winners they were.”

Katie Berner and Melanie Hermon represented Centerville in singles play. Berner fell to eventual champion Rachele Petit of Fairfield while Hermon earned a first-round victory before being defeating by the eventual runner-up in the quarterfinals.

The Centerville doubles team of Lacey Myers and Danielle Widmar was also in action, earning a first-round win before falling in the quarterfinals.

Berner and Buttel enter state tournament play on May 29-30 in Decorah with a perfect 12-0 record this season.
