Travis Whitmore drilled a double and a home run for the Falcons in the loss. Bryan Baum went two for two at the plate with two doubles.

In the nightcap, Indian Hills fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and couldn’t recover, falling by the 9-2 final.

Luke Stamp, Jonathan Piche and Baum had hits for the Falcons.

For the second year in a row, Indian Hills (26-24) and Muscatine (20-22) will hook up in the first round of the Region XI postseason baseball tournament. IHCC and Muscatine will meet at 2 p.m. today at Pat Daugherty Field on the IHCC campus in Centerville.

The Falcons and Cardinals met in the opening round of the Region XI tournament last year and Muscatine put the Falcons in the losers’ bracket with an 11-3 win, slamming five home runs against IHCC pitching. Indian Hills was eventually knocked out of the tourney by Iowa Western.

The Region XI baseball tournament is being played in Centerville for the first time since 2004. Indian Hills won the tourney that year and went on to play in the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.
