KNOXVILLE — The Centerville Redette tennis team finished just one team point away from a conference championship at the SCC meet in Knoxville on May 5.

Centerville’s Heather Buttel earned the number one seed in singles competition and won two matches before taking a tough 10-8 loss to number two seed Britt DeVisser of Albia in the semifinals. Buttel finished as the runner up in the singles bracket.

Melanie Hermon also competed in the singles bracket for Centerville, winning her first-round match before also falling to DeVisser.

In doubles play, the Redette duo of Allison Berner and sister Katie Berner finished second in the bracket after falling by the score of 10-7 to the number one seeded duo from Davis County.

The doubles team of Lacey Myers and Danielle Widmar also competed for Centerville at the meet. Myers and Widmar won their first-round matchup before falling to DC’s number-one seeded duo.

Buttel, Allison and Katie Berner were named all-South Central Conference following their performances at the meet.

The Redettes return to the court on May 10 when they travel to team regionals in Fairfield. Centerville is scheduled to battle Albia at 9 a.m. with the winner scheduled to face the Chariton/Fairfield winner at 1 p.m.
