TUCSON, Ariz. – The Indian Hills Community College baseball team wrapped up the spring trip with wins over Pima Community College (Az.) and Chandler-Gilbert Community College (Az.) on Friday and Saturday.

The Falcons scored four runs in the seventh inning to pull out a 7-4 victory over Pima CC on Friday.

IHCC sophomore infielder Jared Klosterboer (Williamsburg, IA) ripped a two-RBI single in the top of the seventh frame, scoring Roderick Barcelo (Vega Baja, P.R.) and Bryan Baum (Ottumwa, IA) to give the Falcons the lead for good. Klosterboer finished the contest with two hits, three runs batted in and a stolen base. Barcelo and Carlos Zayas (Cidra, P.R.) also recorded two hits each during the game.

“We did the little things today to win,” commented IHCC head coach Cam Walker. “Our pitchers stayed away from big innings and our hitters never gave up.”

IHCC recorded another victory on Saturday, downing Chandler-Gilbert Community College 7-4. The Falcons scored two runs in each of the first three innings to earn the win.

Jonathan Piche (Greeley, Colo.) led the Indian Hills offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and RBI. Zayas, Klosterboer, and Bill Schroeder (Muskego, WI) also had two hits apiece.

IHCC freshman pitcher Brandan Farquhar (Mossley, Ontario) earned his second win during the spring trip after scattering four hits in 4 2/3 innings of work.

“This was a great way to finish off the trip with a big win against one of the top Arizona junior colleges,” Walker said.  “We got good production from the lower part of the order and the pitchers kept their offense under control.”

The Falcons (5-2) are scheduled to play again today in the home opener at Pat Daugherty Field in Centerville against Iowa Central Community College. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
