Goal accomplished. Centerville wrestlers came to Albia with nothing but becoming the sectional champions on their minds.

When all was said and done the Big Reds finished first as a team to advance to the team duals in Winterset on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Centerville finished with 207.5 points followed by Clarke of Osceola with 175 points. Clarke will also be advancing as a team.

Centerville will wrestle Harlan in the first dual and if they win they will wrestle the team winner between Clarke of Osceola and Creston/Orient-Macksburg to determine which team will advance to the state dual meet on Feb. 27.

“We met our goal of being the sectional champions,” said Coach Matt Johnson. “Tuesday will be tough, but not impossible. We have some wrestlers that will have to step up and do well in their matches on Tuesday night.”

Centerville also advanced eight wrestlers to the district meet which will be held on Saturday in Chariton.

“We were real happy to advance eight wrestlers and were real close to advancing 10,” said Johnson.

Champions were Tanner Cowan at 103 pounds, Schyler Morgan at 140 pounds, Ethan Moorman at 160 pounds and Mikey England at 171 pounds.

Also advancing after finishing as runner-ups were Kyler Risher at 135 pounds, Blake McPherren at 152 pounds, Garrett Brown at 215 pounds and Tyler Burge at 285 pounds.

Richard England and Erik Repasz took third place in their weight brackets while Logan Brown, Garrett Owens, Tyler Walker and Thatcher Carel finished fifth for Centerville.

Saturday in Chariton the district qualifiers will be up against the winners of the Albia sectional and the Woodward-Granger sectional.
