Well it is that time of the year when people start diets and live healthier lives and I‘m no exception to the trend. I decided that this New Year’s I would really start to eat healthier and lose some, no wait, a lot of these unwanted post baby pounds. I say post, but since my youngest is two I suppose I shouldn’t even use the kids as fat excuses anymore! I realize that having three kids, all c-section that I will never look the same as I did in high school at a size five, but the double digits are getting a little old. The shopping is even poor since the selection for “big girls” is pretty weak.
So on Dec. 29 I presented myself and a close friend of mine with the 20-week diet plan. We are putting back $5 per week and if in 20 weeks (the end of May) we have met our target weight loss, we will be treating ourselves to a girls day out in Des Moines, if we don’t reach it I guess I will have an extra $100 to spend on more Smart Ones!
Another step for me is to exercise. Something that I haven’t really done for the last 15 years regularly. My son got the Wii Fit for Christmas so I thought, what the heck, I’ll give it a try. As he was helping me set up my profile I got a rude awakening...even the game system could tell how much weight I was carrying around and it wasn’t ashamed to let me know. Keenan (my 12-year-old) laughed hysterically when my little person was a fat woman. He said, “look mom it made you fat on there.” Well thanks Keenan for letting me know that. The Wii Fit is spilt into categories including Yoga, strength, aerobic and balance. I started with balance and I have to say that I am kicking the pants off of the 12-year-old boys that visit my home regularly, however earlier this week when I finally tried to do a strength training exercise I was a little disappointed when the game said...Come on I know you aren’t exercising with me anymore and then after presenting me with zero points called me a couch potato! Needless to say push-ups just aren’t my thing right now, nor are sit-ups. The game did encourage me to continue trying and said that I would get better with practice.
The aerobic exercises are fun and I am leading the pack in the hula hoop with 308 spins, but the Yoga stretching is difficult and the the strength is going to take some time.
I have set some goals for myself along the way and hopefully by the time the spring weather hits I will be able to jog with my son around our land and not die trying to do it. I will be keeping everyone posted and if I never write about this again, just assume that I didn’t make it!
