CENTERVILLE – The Howar Junior High seventh grade girls basketball team swept Albia in a doubleheader on Tuesday.

The Howar “A” team improved to 4-0 overall with a 34-29 win while the Howar “B” team also stayed perfect (3-0) with a 34-13 win over the Lady Dees.

Howar owned a comfortable 30-15 lead after three quarters of play in the “A” game and held off a late Albia surge to take a five point win.

Tristyn Stroup had a big game to lead Centerville in the “A” game, scoring a team-high 10 points while pulling down five rebounds and picking Albia’s pocket five times.

Jordon Talbot and Heidi Gottman also contributed to the Howar victory, scoring six points each in the effort. Meggie Blozovich was a force down low for Centerville, grabbing seven rebounds while blocking five shots.

Centerville’s Jordan Moorman had a career game in the “B” contest by recording a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds; a feat which is almost unheard of in girls junior high basketball.

Jacki Irwin also scored 10 points for Howar while Alyssa Winkel, Talbot and Gottman added four points each in the effort for HJH.

Howar returns to action Tuesday when they host Chariton in a seventh/eighth grade twinbill.
