Mark Hankins of the University of Iowa will be a guest speaker at the annual Clyde and Virginia Carney Memorial golf tournament and dinner on Monday, Aug.13. Hankins is originally from Mount Pleasant and has coached at several universities. He took over the Iowa Hawkeyes golf program in 2007. The four person best shot golf tournament and banquet will be held at the Appanoose Country Club.
Hankins directed the Iowa Hawkeyes to the highest national ranking in school history during the 2011 season. The Hawkeyes tied for 10th at the NCAA Championships, making their highest finish since 1960.
The 13th annual Clyde and Virginia Carney Memorial Scholarship Best Shot Golf Tournament will be held Monday, Aug. 13. Registration begins at 12 p.m. with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The dinner, awards and guest speaker will take place starting at 6 p.m.
The golf tournament is limited to the first 19 teams to register. However, due to cancellations of a few teams, there are spots available. The cost for a foursome, which includes dinner and golf cart(s) is $75. Dinner only tickets are available as well for $25. Contact Jim Carney at (515) 282-6803 for information.
