CENTERVILLE – The Centerville wrestling team hosted the annual Big Red Invitational at Lakeview on Saturday. Sixteen teams were in attendance (15 Iowa, 1 Missouri team).

After the dust settled at the 10-hour tournament, Centerville emerged with a third-place team finish behind second-ranked Creston and 10th-ranked Clarinda.

The Big Reds managed to take third despite fourth-ranked Mike England not competing at the event.

“Coming in, we didn’t anticipate a top-three finish. I had to make a last-minute call on Mike England because he was sick. If we would have had him we definitely would have placed second. I was happy with the way we wrestled,” commented Centerville head coach Kevin Cochran.

Ben King (103), Josh Greiner (112) and Ethan Moorman (152) each won individual titles while Wallace Carter (215) took second for Centerville.

“We’re stepping up in big matches. Ethan Moorman knocked off a kid ranked ahead of him and the kid Wallace [Carter] had was ranked ahead of him, even though he lost it was just 1-0. I told Wallace that if he wanted to lose to him, now was the time to do it because he’ll see him one more time, and that’s when we beat him,” Cochran said.

“We’re wrestling really well, we still have some progress to make, but right now I’m pretty happy,” added Cochran.
