CENTERVILLE – The Centerville baseball team hosted Washington in a varsity doubleheader at Pat Daugherty Field on Thursday.

Kyle Kauzlarich had a solid outing on the mound for the Big Reds in the opener as Centerville claimed a 4-2 victory.

“Kyle mixed his pitches up well, scattering seven Washington hits,” commented Centerville head coach Bill Huisman.

Kauzlarich struck out four batters while walking none during the six-inning win.

The Big Reds got the win despite recording just three hits in five innings. Jason Harwell led the charge, going 1-for-2 with a run while Patrick Harshman and Morgan Kellis were each 1-for-3 at the plate for Centerville.

Washington returned the favor in the nightcap, picking up a 5-1 win after outhitting the Big Reds 11 to four.

Wallace Carter paced the Big Red bats, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and stolen base while Kauzlarich and John Cochran each added singles in the contest.

“Jason Harwell played a fine defensive game in right field, making seven catches in two games,” added Huisman.

Centerville (2-4) hits the diamond again today when they host Pella in a JV/V matchup starting at 5:30 p.m.
