\The Centerville Big Red tennis team improved to 2-1 overall after defeating the Ottumwa JV on Monday and Albia on Tuesday.

Mike Senter, Austin Burkland and Gage Martin each earned singles victories on Monday for Centerville.

“We were missing our number four and five players this week (Alex Burch and John Irwin), so some JV kids had to step up, and they did,” commented Centerville head coach Rich Parker. “Gage Martin recorded his first varsity win which was great for his confidence. Our other kids played really well versus the Ottumwa JV and we came away with our first win of the season.”

The Big Reds rolled to a 7-2 win over Albia.

“Against Albia we went with similar lineup and the kids rallied well. Austin Burkland, our number one, came from behind against Billings and pulled out a very nice singles win. Dave Harshman and Mike Senter, Conner Kelderman and Martin also handled their opponents fairly easily. We’re progressing nicely,” added Parker.
