Lady Eagles defeat Murray in overtime thriller:

MURRAY – The Moulton-Udell Lady Eagle basketball team pulled out a 60-55 overtime victory at Murray on Jan. 4.

M-U trailed by three points with 45 seconds remaining in the game. Kelsi Guinn of M-U hit a jump shot that sent the game into overtime where the Lady Eagles outscored Murray 9-4.

“I’m proud of the kids, it’s a huge win for us,” commented M-U head coach Jason Ogden.

Moulton-Udell boys outlast Murray, 44-39:

MURRAY – The Moulton-Udell boys basketball team ran its record to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the Bluegrass Conference with a 44-39 win over Murray on Jan. 4.

With the game tied after three quarters of play, M-U sealed the win with 18 fourth-quarter points compared to Murray’s 13 points.

The loss was Murray’s first defeat of the season.

“We struggled shooting but provided a solid defensive effort to get the always difficult win at Murray,” said M-U head coach Brent Martsching.

Seymour boys hold off Moravia, 62-42:

SEYMOUR – The Seymour Warrior basketball team hosted Bluegrass Conference foe Moravia on Monday night.

Seymour jumped out to a 29-15 halftime advantage and never looked back, holding on for a 62-42 victory.

“This was a total team effort. We limited our turnovers, took good shots, and finally made some free throws,” said Seymour head coach Matt Kovacevich. “I’m pleased with the way our kids held their composure and played hard.”

Brady McElvain led Seymour on the boards with 19 rebounds. Matt Lowe also had a big night for the Warriors, recording 23 points, 18 rebounds and nine blocks.

“We fed off Brady McElvain’s intensity tonight. He did a tremendous job on the glass,” Kovacevich said. “It was good to get a win. We have been close on quite a few this year and tonight we got over the hump.”

With the win, Seymour improved to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in Bluegrass Conference play.
