Appanoose Aces, the traveling AAU 13-and 14-year-old volleyball team, started playing together in 2011 and now are making a habit of high finishes.

In Ankeny, the Aces placed third out of 14 and qualified for the state tournament; in Afton, the Aces placed second out of eight and again qualified for the state tournament; in Indianola, the Aces finished third out of 12 teams; in Albia, the Aces finished second out of five teams; and in Ankeny for the second time, the Aces finished third out of 12 and qualified for the third time for the state tournament in Indianola.

Aces' coaches are asking for community support when the team plays in the state tournament in Indianola March 24.

"The state tournament will have the best of the best AAU volleyball teams present and the Aces plan to be competitive with these teams," according to an Aces coach. "We would love to see anyone from the community who could come up and support these athletics as they have worked so hard all season to get to this level."

The Aces play in the eighth grade division despite having only two eighth-graders with the rest of the Aces in seventh grade.
